Dioptase

Dioptase is a stunning blue-green mineral that’s prized by collectors for its brilliance and clarity. It’s found in only a few places around the world, and the finest specimens come from the copper mines of Tsumeb, Namibia.

Dioptase is a member of the silicate family of minerals, which also includes quartz and amethyst. Its chemical composition isCuSiO3·H2O, which means it contains one atom of copper, one atom of silicon, and three atoms of oxygen. Dioptase crystals are typically small, but they can occasionally reach sizes of several inches. The largest known crystal weighs in at nearly four pounds!

Dioptase is a popular stone for jewelry making because it’s both durable and beautiful. It’s also said to have healing properties, and is believed to promote love and compassion.
